Country Living & Lifestyles Expo: Not your typical home and garden show

- By Linda Burke Greater Edgewood Area Chamber

Life in the country is great—that’s why we’re here! And, spring is the perfect time to get out and discover new things. So, Greater Edgewood Area Chamber has put together the first-ever Country Living & Lifestyles Expo on April 27 at the old Edgewood Elementary campus.

But, this is not your typical home and garden show. You will find plenty to see, do, and try. This Expo is an adventure, showcasing more than 60 exhibitors and featuring the activities, businesses, and services that make our East Mountain lifestyle so great and far more convenient than people realize.

Every featured business and organization works right here, specifically serving our local communities. Most exhibitors also live here, so they really understand our needs and desires for a quality country lifestyle. In keeping with that theme, EPCOR is providing an eco-friendly, reusable grocery bag to the first 250 adult attendees.

The Expo includes activities for children with make-and-take projects led by Route 66 Arts Alliance, and kid-friendly videos in the ‘fishbowl’ theater just off the main lobby. When you and the little ones get hungry, Acapulco Taco and Chili Hills will be onsite with food available for purchase.

Throughout the day, experts will lead 16 different 20-minute break-out sessions on topics ranging from home maintenance to healthy living options to planning your future. Speaker topics reflect the wide variety of interests found amongst East Mountain residents, too. Just some of the many break-out sessions include John Mckenzie, owner of From the Ashes Apothecary, on “Understanding CBD” and “Medicinal Herbs in Your Backyard.” Scott Stanford with New York Life will present, “Blueprint for Financial Success.” Jennifer Sandoval will speak on family wellness and Doula services, “Tending to Childbirth and Empowering Family Health.” For the home, Southwest Windows will discuss a new product, “Titan Security Screen and Storm Doors,” and Erin Tso Canon of Canon’s Southwest Septic Services, will present “Septic 101.”

The Bloodmobile will be on-site from 9 a.m. to noon. They are offering their ‘pint for a pint’ promotion—when you help others by donating your blood, they will show their appreciate with a gift card to a local beverage outlet. It’s all part of the neighbor-to-neighbor community spirit so common here.

Speaking of giving, exhibitors are providing lots of door prizes, too. Prize winners will be announced every hour all day long. The chamber is spicing things up, too, offering extra door prize tickets for everyone who registers in advance online (through Eventbrite) to get their free admission tickets.
