The New Mexico High School Coaches Association announced its 2020-21 Allstate Football Teams and several area players received first- and second-team selections.
Mountainair High School tops the list with the most players selected from its Six-man squad: Cade Brazil was voted as the first-team quarterback and first-team inside linebacker; Gabe Padilla was selected as the first-team running back; Kayzen Greene was selected as the firstteam center; Dylan Greene as the firstteam receiver; Brandon Burkeen made first-team defensive end; Adrian Luna, first-team defensive lineman; Devon Lopez, first-team outside linebacker; Jake Zamora, first-team defensive secondary. Moriarty’s Cayden Dunn was selected as the Class 4A second-team running back.
Estancia’s Marino Rivera-noblitt was selected to the 2A second-team as a running back.
Each year, the top high school players are voted to the All-state teams by head football coaches from around the state. Coaches send their nominations for Allstate consideration to the NMHSCA. The NMHSCA creates a ballot, the coaches rank the athletes by position, and the NMHSCA tallies the votes and releases the teams.
Moriarty High School’s girls soccer head coach Val Luker was named the District 2-4A Coach of the Year.
Estancia High School’s boys basketball team overcame a slow start to beat Monte del Sol, 66-48 on April 20 in Santa Fe. Estancia’s girls basketball team cruised to a 48-11 victory over Monte del Sol the same day in Santa Fe.
