Canda L. Chavez 1933 – 2021

Canda L. Chavez, 87, a lifetime resident of Willard, passed away with her loving family by her side on April 15. Canda was born Nov. 18, 1933 in Progresso, to Federico and Maria Reyes Luna. Canda was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Willard. She will be remembered as a loving faithful woman of God. She was also an amazing wife, mother, grandmothe­r of five generation­s, and a loving sister and auntie. Canda was preceded in death by her parents, Federico and Maria Reyes Luna; son, Alden Chavez; grandsons, Tony and Tommy Chavez; great-grandson, Timothy Chavez; brothers, Andy Luna, Melcor Luna and wife Katie, Tony Luna and wife Tillie, Mateo Luna and wife Rose, and Gabriel Luna and wife Louisa; sister, Mollie Luna Padilla and husband Erineo; and sons and daughters-in-law, Juan Mendez, Julio Rodriguez, Kendra Chavez, and Ray Santiago. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Bobby Chavez; and 10 children, Sammy and wife Nestora Chavez, Arlene Mendez, Faye Chavez, Zoraida Garcia, Roberta Chavez, Duane Chavez, Mark Chavez and Danielle, Crystal and husband Tony

Chavez, Paul and wife Patricia Chavez, and Elena Santiago; sister, Delfinia Luna; 41 grandkids; 53 great-grandkids, 14 great-great-grandchild­ren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A rosary was recited April 20, and a Mass was celebrated April 21, both at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Willard. Burial followed at El Rosario Cemetery in Willard. Pallbearer­s were David Luna, Anthony Luna, Andy Luna, Edward Padilla, Alfredo Jaramillo, Antone Garcia, Martin Luna, and Rick Padilla. Honorary pallbearer­s were all of her grandsons and great-grandsons. Funeral arrangemen­ts were entrusted to the Harris-hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty.
