History book, ‘Timelines of the East Mountains’ is award Finalist

-

The New Mexico Book Association has announced that Timelines of the East Mountains, the monumental history book produced by the East Mountain Historical Society, is the Finalist in the History category in its 2021 Southwest Book Design and Production Awards. Only one winner and one Finalist are named in the highly competitive contest.

This is the third prestigious award for Timelines. The book was honored as the First Place winner in the 2020 New Mexico/arizona Book Awards in History and in 2021 received the Historical Society of New Mexico’s Lansing B. Bloom award, given annually to an outstanding publication in New Mexico or Southwest borderlands history.

The book was produced by an all-volunteer committee of the EMHS over a period of three years and is available for purchase at local outlets and online. The latest award recognizes especially the work of Kathy Rich, owner of East Mountain Graphics, who designed and laid out the hundreds of articles and photographs in the 700-plus page book.

Timelines covers 400 years of history of East Mountain communities over an area of about 400 square miles. Now in its second printing, Timelines is available for purchase at the Triangle Grocery in Cedar Crest, Roots Cafe in Tijeras, The Henderson Store in Golden and via the East Mountain Historical Society online store at eastmountainhistory.org.

Triangle and Roots also carry the EMHS’S newest 2022 calendar, “Every Picture Tells a Story,” with 12 months of historic photographs and stories from the area. Triangle also carries Mapping Our Vanishing Past, the map that inspired the Timelines book, showing nearly 200 vanishing or no longer existing sites, towns and landmarks. Maps and calendars may also be found at Hey Mavis in Cedar Crest.

The 2022 calendar also commemorates the fact that this year marks the 30th Anniversary of the East Mountain Historical Society.
