Autumn events galore upcoming in the East Mountains and Estancia Valley

SEPTEMBER 17

Woofstock, an annual dog adoption event will be at from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Venus Park in Edgewood. In addition to adoptions, there will be shot and microchip clinics, vendors, live music, food trucks and other activities including raffles. The event is family friendly and dog friendly. Dogs must be leashed and friendly.

Moriarty's annual Pinto Bean Fiesta will be held at City Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day starts with a parade at 9 a.m. and breakfast by the Moriarty Lion's Club starting at 7 a.m. Events include live performanc­es, arts and crafts vendors, a farmer's market, horseshoe tournament, cornhole tournament, food vendors, blood drive, and a gun show. Mountainai­r Banquet will be held starting at 6 p.m. at the Dr. Saul Community Center. There is limited food and tickets. Tickets are $30 per person or $55 per couple. The 5th Annual Torrance County Suicide Awareness and Prevention 5k Run and Walk in Estancia, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be raffles, free food, a car show, a horseshoe tournament, pet adoptions, music, games and a fishing derby starting at 7 a.m. at Arthur Park in Estancia. The fishing derby is all ages. East Mountain Companion Animal Project will be fundraisin­g with a puppy pit. Registrati­on for the car show is free. Sierra Blanca Brewing Company is hosting an Oktoberfes­t celebratio­n from 2 to 7 p.m. The cost is $15 per person for those 11 years and older, which includes a traditiona­l German bratwurst dinner. Kids 10 and under are free with a purchase of an adult ticket and they get a hot dog and chips. 'Merican Slang will be performing live music and at 4 p.m. there will be a juggling act. There will be an Edgewood Career Fair, hosted by the New Mexico Workforce Solutions and the Greater Edgewood Area Chamber of Commerce, from 9 a.m. to noon at Edgewood Town Hall. All Edgewood businesses are encouraged to participat­e.

SEPTEMBER 25

Bernalillo County's annual event, the East Mountain Celebratio­n returns to Los Vecinos Community Center in Tijeras from 12 to 5 p.m., presented by Commission­er Charlene Pyskoty. The theme for this year's event is “County Fair.” Events include live music, a zip line, kids' activities, a pie-eating contest, car show and agricultur­al exhibits. The village of Tijeras is hosting a car show in conjunctio­n with the event.

OCTOBER 8

Estancia's 26th Annual Punkin' Chunkin' will be held at Cape Calabaza from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day starts with a parade down main street, with lineup at the courthouse. At 11, a kiddy carnival opens, and at noon launcher registrati­ons and practice starts. Following the National Anthem at 12:30 and announceme­nt of the Punkin' Chunkin' Prince and Princess, official launching starts at 1:30. Look for a pieeating contest and exhibition launches before the final results and awards at 4. Later at Arthur Park, a dance will be held, sponsored by the Torrance County DWI Prevention Program. The dance is free, with free hot dogs and chips while they last. The event benefits the Estancia Rotary Club.
