Ida Viola (Brent) Olson 1922 – 2022

-

On August 2, at the age of 100, God called Ida back home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Ida was born March 29, 1922, to Deputy Sheriff Ulysses S. Brent and Bertha E. (Atnip) Brent. She was one of 10 children and was 9 years old when her father was killed in the line of duty while making an arrest. On July 8, 1938, at the age of 16, Ida married her sweetheart, Rev. Floyd (Billy) Olson. They had six children and were married just under 35 years, until his death in 1973. Rev. Billy and Ida felt strongly and believed deeply in the mission of the Assemblies of God church where they pioneered and built many churches in Tennessee, Arizona, California and New Mexico. They had a burden for the Native Americans and had a calling to go on the mission field to the Apache Indians in Mescalero, San Carlos, Arizona and Whiteriver, Arizona. Times were hard, and many sacrifices were made for her and her family, but God was faithful. They loved and trusted in God and had a mighty desire to serve Him, walking by faith and not by sight. Ida was a faithful and devoted, loved and cherished wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a prayer warrior, a hard working, gracious, kind, loving lady who always put others first. She is waiting with those gone before her, for those of us who are left behind. She is survived by five sons, one daughter, and their spouses: Jim and Lavinda Olson of La Luz; David and Ilo Olson of Cottontown, Tennessee; Victor and Audrey Olson of Grand Terrace, California; J.D. and Jeanie Olson of Eugene, Oregon; Tim and Geanie Olson of Edgewood; Beth and Thomas Heine of Edgewood; and a remembered daughter in love, Joyce Martineau of Alamogordo; 21 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 31 great-greatgrandchildren; and many friends she called family.
