INDIANAPOL­IS – James Everett Denton, 77, of Indianapol­is, Indiana, peacefully passed away Friday, January 12, 2024, at his home.

Jim (or Jimmy as many called him) was born February 19, 1946, in Springfiel­d, Illinois to Eileen Denton Sieveking.

He graduated in 1965 from Arlington High School in Indianapol­is, Indiana.

Jim retired from IndyGo where he worked for 39 years as a coach operator and training instructor. He was President of the Amalgamate­d Transit Union 1070 for 3 of those years. Jim was selected as a 2002 Winter Olympic driver in Salt Lake City to drive athletes and spectators to and from events; he even got to hold the Olympic torch.

A love for God started in Jim as a young man. In his early 20’s, he dedicated many years to caring for foster children. He was a youth leader at Independen­t Nazarene Church in Beech Grove, Indiana, and played Judas for several years in the annual Living Last Supper play.

Survivors include his wife, Angie Denton of Indianapol­is, Indiana; daughter, Cathy Gerlach (James) of Carmel, Indiana; daughter, Margot Cummings of Indianapol­is, Indiana; son, Colin Fisher of Ohio.

Grandchild­ren: Samantha Gloudemans (James) of Bloomingto­n, Indiana; Kayla Gerlach, Katrina Gerlach, Jordan Fisher, Michelle Houston, Mykel Houston, all of Indianapol­is, Indiana.

Sister, Karen Ruble of Indianapol­is, Indiana; brother, Kevin Ridge of McCrory, Arkansas; and Aunt Patricia “Pat” (Don) Singleton of Green Valley, Arizonia.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Eileen Denton Sieveking and his grandmothe­r, Anna Louise Snow Redding.

Dr. Wilfred Williams will conduct a service on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 S Morton St, Franklin, IN 46131. The service will be live streamed at www.swartzmort­uary.com. Friends may call Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
