GREENWOOD – William B. Petty, 73, of Greenwood, Indiana, passed away on January 15, 2024. He was born on February 4, 1950 in Newark, Ohio to the late Robert and Esta (Wagner) Petty.

Bill was a 1968 Ben Davis High School graduate, then graduated from Purdue University in 1972. Bill dedicated his life to youth sports and touched many lives as a coach and mentor. He volunteere­d at the Children’s Museum and the Indianapol­is Zoo.

In both his profession­al and personal life, Bill was often turned to for comfort and guidance.

Bill was an avid blackjack player, an avid golfer, The Ohio State fan and a lifelong fan of the Colts.

He is survived by his daughter, Shannon (Todd) Kersey; son, Scott (Erin) Petty; sister, Carolyn Berton; five grandchild­ren, Rebecca L. Sherry, Cody (Ashley) Petty, Tyler Petty, Colton Petty, and Zachery Petty; two nieces; great niece, and close family friend, Julie Patterson.

He was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart, wife of 35 years, Susan Petty.

He will be dearly missed by family and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN. A funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 11:30 am at the funeral home.

Bill will be laid to rest in Mt. Pleasant Greenwood Cemetery.
