Efficient junior sets standard for success at Ben Davis

- Shari Rudavsky and Joe Mutascio

The Ben Davis High School community and its students continue to awe us.

Once again, a Ben Davis student captured the title of IndyStar Student of the Week, junior Jayla Bailey. With more than 3,100 votes cast in this week’s poll, Jayla edged out tough competition to win the award.

Here’s what her nominator said about her:

Jayla Bailey, a junior at Ben Davis High School. Jayla demonstrates the habits of mind that successful people display everyday both inside and outside of the classroom. In every class that teachers have had Jayla, her work is always above and beyond. She is able to juggle all of her academic commitments better than most students with amazing time management awareness. She is willing to help others, as she is quick to master content, and chooses to help peers do the same. Jayla is a wonderful decision maker, thinking through her options and the consequences. Jayla sets the standard for the Ben Davis Habits of Success.”

Each student here clearly deserves this accolade and many more. But we leave it up to you, the readers, to vote on your favorite and clearly the Ben Davis community is taking this to heart.

Keep in mind, this contest is just one somewhat whimsical way to bring attention not to an individual student but to so many out there who are deserving.

The reason we ask readers to vote is to make the process more interactive and engage students in the hope that they will read and participate and just maybe be inspired by a fellow student at their own school or another.

Each week we ask schools to nominate one student for that week’s contest. Then we invite readers to vote. Readers can vote more than once.

If any principal would like to nominate a student, please contact Shari
