INDIANAPOL­IS - Betty Mae Higgens, 97, of Indianapol­is, IN passed away on Monday, March 25, 2024. Betty was born on May 31, 1926 in Indianapol­is to the late James T. and Wilma G. Kellie. Betty graduated from Southport HS in 1944. Betty attended Purdue University where she received a home economics degree.

On August 20, 1948 Betty married Calvin Higgens of Indianapol­is. They had four children Daniel, Diane, Gregory and Carolyn. Betty lived on Indianapol­is’ Southside for her entire life. Betty was a very sweet and caring person with a joyful heart. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r. She enjoyed volunteeri­ng at Christ United Methodist Church, where she would teach in Sunday School. She also volunteere­d with One Mission Society. Betty was very creative. She enjoyed making greeting cards, sewing, and cross-stitching. She also enjoyed being outside and gardening with Calvin.

Betty is survived by her children Daniel Higgens, Diane (Don) Beeman, Carolyn (Rex) Adams, daughter-in-law Tammy (Gregory) Higgens, grandchild­ren Laura (Chris) Nadeau, Mike (Dora) Beeman, Jeffrey Higgens, Sarah Higgens and Clark (Sarah) Adams, great-grandchild­ren Greyson Nadeau, Cameron Nadeau, and Aurora Piscoi Beeman, and a sister Jean Eder. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Calvin Higgens, son Gregory Higgens, and siblings Fred Kellie, James Kellie, Jo Ann Curtis, and David Kellie.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 11:00 to 1:00 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens and Funeral Home 1977 South State Rd 135 Greenwood, IN 46143. Service will be held at 1:00pm. Betty will be laid to rest next to Calvin in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
