Phillip Phillips will sing ‘God Bless America’ at Indy 500
Singer-songwriter Phillip Phillips will sing “God Bless America” as part of the pre-race ceremony before the 2024 Indy 500, Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Thursday.
Phillips is known for his nearly ubiquitous hit “Home,” which was the musician’s coronation song when he won American Idol in 2012. That same year, NBC used the tune as a theme for U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics coverage. The song climbed Billboard and iTunes charts and became the soundtrack to commercials.
Following “Home,” Phillips has gone on to release several albums, including “The World From The Side Of The Moon,” “Behind The Light” and “Collateral.” In the midst of the pandemic, he wrote “Love Like That” as a tribute to his wife and child.
Phillips also will play in the opening production of the AES 500 Festival Parade on May 25 downtown while the Indianapolis Colts cheerleaders and the Indiana Pacemates perform. At 9 p.m. that night, Phillips will play The Vogue at 6259 N. College Ave.

Phillips’ addition follows the speedway’s announcement of another American Idol winner in the Indy 500 prerace lineup. Jordin Sparks, who won the famed contest in 2007, will sing the national anthem.
