Frank (John Franklin) Stark
Frank (John Franklin) Stark, 76, of Sun City, Bluffton, SC, was born August 20, 1942 in Kansas City, KS. He passed away on October 9, 2018, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
He was survived by Mary Lou Parkinson Stark, wife of 54 years; sons: Brian M Stark (Paige Stapleton), Pittsboro, NC, and Mark E Stark (Katharine Schweighardt), New Orleans, LA; and younger sister, Jan S Jones (Mark), Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank L and Frances (Drury) Stark.
He was active in Boy Scouts, becoming the first legally blind Eagle Scout from the Kansas School for the Blind Troop 16 in 1961.
Following graduation from Washburn University, KS, and Kansas University, he worked as a clinical social worker for over 35 years in Bloomington, IL; Elmira and Corning, NY; and Washington, DC. He was skilled in mental health, alcoholism, substance abuse, and foster care.
He was well known for his storytelling skills and attained the status of Distinguished Toastmaster, Toastmasters International. He was also active in the National Association of Social Workers, Lions Club, and Rotary over the years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 am Sunday, December 30, 2018, at Unity of Hilton Head, 1300 Fording Island Road, (Seaquins Ballroom), Bluffton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memory Matters (mymemorymatters.org) or Unity of Hilton Head in memory of Frank Stark.
