Frank (John Franklin) Stark, 76, of Sun City, Bluffton, SC, was born Au­gust 20, 1942 in Kansas City, KS. He passed away on Oc­to­ber 9, 2018, from com­pli­ca­tions of Alzheimer’s disease.

He was sur­vived by Mary Lou Parkin­son Stark, wife of 54 years; sons: Brian M Stark (Paige Sta­ple­ton), Pitts­boro, NC, and Mark E Stark (Katharine Sch­weighardt), New Or­leans, LA; and younger sis­ter, Jan S Jones (Mark), In­di­ana. He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents Frank L and Frances (Drury) Stark.

He was ac­tive in Boy Scouts, be­com­ing the first legally blind Ea­gle Scout from the Kansas School for the Blind Troop 16 in 1961.

Fol­low­ing grad­u­a­tion from Wash­burn Uni­ver­sity, KS, and Kansas Uni­ver­sity, he worked as a clin­i­cal so­cial worker for over 35 years in Bloom­ing­ton, IL; Elmira and Corn­ing, NY; and Wash­ing­ton, DC. He was skilled in men­tal health, al­co­holism, sub­stance abuse, and foster care.

He was well known for his sto­ry­telling skills and at­tained the sta­tus of Distin­guished Toast­mas­ter, Toast­mas­ters In­ter­na­tional. He was also ac­tive in the Na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion of So­cial Work­ers, Lions Club, and Ro­tary over the years.

A Cel­e­bra­tion of Life will be held at 11:30 am Sun­day, De­cem­ber 30, 2018, at Unity of Hil­ton Head, 1300 Ford­ing Is­land Road, (Seaquins Ball­room), Bluffton. In lieu of flow­ers, do­na­tions may be made to Mem­ory Mat­ters (mymem­o­ry­mat­ or Unity of Hil­ton Head in mem­ory of Frank Stark.
