Iowa State routs No. 5 Kansas at home

Mar­ial Shayok scored 24 points, and Iowa State routed No. 5 Kansas 77-60 on Satur­day in Ames, Iowa, for its fifth straight win.

Fresh­man Tyrese Hal­ibur­ton made four 3-point­ers and scored 14 points for the Cy­clones (12-2, 2-0), who opened Big 12 play with back-to-back wins for the first time since 2015 af­ter forc­ing the Jay­hawks (12-2, 1-1) into a sea­son-high 24 turnovers.

De­spite get­ting out­re­bounded 41-26, Iowa State made sur­pris­ingly easy work of Kansas in an early Big 12 test. lead Ken­tucky, which gave Alabama a big scare in the fi­nal sec­onds af­ter surg­ing back from 11 points down. No. 3 Ten­nessee 96, Ge­or­gia 50: Jor­dan Bow­den scored 20 points off the bench, and the Vol­un­teers (12-1) opened SEC play in Knoxville, Tenn., with the most lop­sided vic­tory in their 156-game se­ries with the Bull­dogs (8-5). Ten­nessee won its 17th straight home game by nearly match­ing its high­est vic­tory mar­gin in any SEC game; the Vols beat Mis­sis­sippi 102-55 on Jan. 8, 1966.

No. 10 Vir­ginia Tech 77, Bos­ton Col­lege 66: Nick­eil Alexan­der-Walker scored 25 points to lead the Hok­ies (13-1, 2-0 ACC) past the Ea­gles (9-4, 0-1) in Blacks­burg, Va. BC led early in the sec­ond half, but an 11-0 run gave Vir­ginia Tech con­trol for its eighth straight win.
