Maimonides Honors Volunteers at Annual Recognition Ceremony & Luncheon
Maimonides Medical Center recently honored its volunteers with a special Recognition Ceremony & Luncheon at Paradise Manor. Over 400 guests celebrated the contributions of 1,911 volunteers, who collectively gave a remarkable 257,000 hours of service to the Medical Center in 2016.
Welcoming remarks were given by Maimonides President & CEO Kenneth D. Gibbs. “We’re inspired by your selflessness and deeply indebted to each one of you,” he said to the hundreds of volunteers present. “You make our hospital a better place for patients and staff.”
Special guest speaker First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray, thanked volunteers for making a difference at Maimonides. “You have a positive impact on families and patients every day and it truly matters,” she noted.
City Councilman David G. Greenfield also gave remarks and thanked Maimonides volunteers for their tireless efforts. In addition, the celebration featured a video presentation recognizing the work of volunteers at Maimonides. It showed them assisting with foreign language interpretation, administrative tasks, supportive services and recreational activities for patients.
“The Recognition Ceremony was a tremendous success,” said Douglas Jablon, Senior VP for Patient Relations. “We honored Mrs. Shyfra Scharf, our volunteer for over 40 years. Mrs. Scharf started the Pesha Elias Bikur Cholim D’Bobov organization, whose volunteers have been visiting patients in the hospital and assisting in the Emergency Room for over three decades.”
“Maimonides volunteers range in age from 14 to 95, and come from all over the world,” explained Alla Zats, Director of Volunteer & Student Services. “They share their talents with others in need, and help us provide patients with ‘the best care, right here.’”
