Protecting against identity theft
The U.S. Justice Department isn’t coordinating its efforts to stop identity theft and has failed to make a crime that affects 10 million Americans each year a priority, a department investigator found.
“The department does not have its own internal strategy to combat identity theft,” according to a report by Inspector General Glenn Fine.
The report recommended the department name someone to focus on identity theft. “We concur with the recommendations,” said Tracy Schmaler, a department spokeswoman.
