Women rescue man from train tracks

The Kansas City Star (Sunday) - - LOCAL | -

Two young women pulled a man from his car Monday at an Olathe railroad crossing just before a train smashed the car.

The rescue happened just before midnight after the driver drove around barricades and got stuck on a crossing that was closed for repairs, Johnson County deputies said. The two tried to get him out when they saw train lights at the crossing at 167th Street and U.S. 169.

Amber Kopaczewski, 19, of Spring Hill, said she screamed, “Get out or you’re going to die!” But that didn’t work.

Her friend, Kachalle Young, 18, of Olathe, finally pulled the man out of the car before the train smashed it, she said.

The driver thanked them, but deputies arrested him for driving with a suspended license and for a registration violation. | Joe Lambe, jlambe@kcstar.com
