Death penalty upheld in sex-related killing
The Missouri Supreme Court upheld Tuesday the death sentence given to Richard Davis for the videotaped sexual assault and murder of a woman at his Independence apartment. A jury convicted him in 2008 for killing Marsha Spicer, whose body was found in a shallow grave in Lafayette County.
Davis and his girlfriend, Dena Riley, videotaped the 2006 assault. Riley is serving life in prison without parole.
“This crime was unspeakable, Mr. Davis’ conduct cold and calculating, and the evidence of guilt overwhelming,” Judge Laura Denvir Stith wrote.
