Tru­man Li­brary is free on Vet­er­ans Day, with a slate of events

Ad­mis­sion to the Harry S. Tru­man Pres­i­den­tial Li­brary & Mu­seum in In­de­pen­dence will be free on Sun­day as part of a pro­gram of Vet­er­ans Day events.

The li­brary, at 500 W. U.S. 24, will be open 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the sev­enth an­nual Hon­or­able Ike Skel­ton Vet­er­ans Day Salute.

Air Force Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Tim White will give an ad­dress in the au­di­to­rium at noon, fol­lowed by a wreath-lay­ing cer­e­mony in the court­yard.

Mu­sic and other events are sched­uled through­out the af­ter­noon be­fore a 5 p.m. screen­ing of a film about World War I, which ended on the West­ern Front 100 years ago on Nov. 11, 1918.

Skel­ton was a Demo­cratic mem­ber of Congress rep­re­sent­ing Mis­souri’s 4th Dis­trict for 34 years un­til his de­feat in 2010.
