School lock­down over; po­lice still search­ing for stolen auto sus­pect

Over­land Park po­lice con­tin­ued to look for one of two sus­pects who fled from of­fi­cers Thurs­day morn­ing while lock­downs were lifted at two lo­cal schools.

John Diemer El­e­men­tary School and In­dian Woods Mid­dle School had both been placed on lock­down for sev­eral hours while po­lice searched for the sus­pects nearby. T

The lock­down was lifted by mid-morn­ing.

Over­land Park po­lice spokesman Of­fi­cer John Lacy said the chase be­gan in Jackson County be­fore a sus­pect ve­hi­cle crossed the state line into Kansas. The Kansas High­way Pa­trol joined the pur­suit.

The sus­pect ve­hi­cle, which had been re­ported stolen, stopped in the 10000 block of Hor­ton Street and two sus­pects fled on foot.

Po­lice took one sus­pect into cus­tody shortly af­ter 9 a.m.

Po­lice set up a perime­ter, but af­ter about 90 min­utes they de­ter­mined that the re­main­ing sus­pect had left the area.
