Man shot out­side Hardee’s has died

A 30-year-old man who was hos­pi­tal­ized af­ter be­ing shot in the park­ing lot of a Hardee’s res­tau­rant in North­east Kansas City last Tues­day has died, ac­cord­ing to Kansas City po­lice.

Of­fi­cers re­sponded to the shoot­ing in the 6300 block of In­de­pen­dence Av­enue just af­ter 8 p.m. that night, ac­cord­ing to the Kansas City Po­lice De­part­ment.

The man has been iden­ti­fied as Joseph P. Del­gado. Po­lice have not said what led to the shoot­ing.

Two of­fi­cers were in nearby park­ing lot when they heard be­tween three and four gun­shots com­ing from across the street at the Hardee’s. They im­me­di­ately ran across the street and saw Del­gado in a ve­hi­cle with an ap­par­ent gun­shot wound, ac­cord­ing to po­lice.

Del­gado was taken to a hospi­tal with life-threat­en­ing in­juries. He died on Satur­day, po­lice said.

A car seen in the res­tau­rant’s park­ing lot off Bea­con Av­enue ap­peared to have dam­age from gun­fire, po­lice said.

No ar­rests have been made and po­lice did not re­lease a de­scrip­tion of the shooter.

The killing was the city’s 30th homi­cide this year, ac­cord­ing to data kept by The Star, which also in­cludes fatal po­lice shoot­ings.
