Pedal Pull winners announced
CENTREVILLE — The Pedal Pull drew more than 60 competitors at the 2018 Queen Anne’s County Fair Tuesday evening, Aug. 7. Kids, divided by age, took turns seeing how far they could pedal a tractor pulling a weighted sled in the main show ring while friends and family members cheered them on.
Participants ranged in age from 4 to 13. There was no 14- and 15-year-olds class this year. The 6- and 7-yearolds class garnered the most entries. The size of the pedal tractor and the amount of weight on the sled increased with each age group.
Announcer Tommy Higgs explained how the competition worked and invited supporters to come up and cheer on their competitor. He cheered on every participant, encouraging them to go “just one more” time around with the pedals. The key, he said, is to pedal straight and fast and get up some speed before the weight reaches the top of the sled.
In the 8- and 9-year-olds class, Travis Turner and Jacob Clough tied for first place and had to compete in a run-off, where more weight was added to the sled bringing it to 100 pounds. Travis won the tie breaker and took first; Jacob got second.
Loralye LaClair of Queen Anne celebrated her 8th birthday at the fair Tuesday night. While she didn’t finish in the top three in her new age class, Higgs lead the crowd in singing ‘Happy Birthday” to her before she made her run.
