KI Yacht Club hosts fundraiser to assist bartender in need
CHESTER — The Kent Island Yacht Club is hosting a special fundraiser for Lana Hammond of Grasonville, “Help Get Lana Back on Her Feet,” from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the yacht club pavilion. Hammond, who was born in her parent’s home in Grasonville and has lived her entire life in Queen Anne’s County, recently lost the lower portion of her left leg due to a vascular is- sue. For most of her working life, she has been a bartender or server at local restaurants such as No Place, R’s Americantina, and, for the past many years, the Kent Island Yacht Club. She will be out of work for the foreseeable future as she adapts to using a prosthetic leg.
The event, which is supported by many local businesses, organizations and residents, will feature hot dogs, hamburgers, salads and sides, beer (with special thanks to G&G Distributors and Kelly Distributing), sodas, music all day provided by Lamont, Chuck, Coy and Friends and D.J. Tommy, a cornhole tournament, games, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and a cake wheel. Tickets are $20 each and may be purchased at the Kent Island Yacht Club or at the door on the day of the event. There also will be a cash bar.
The cornhole tournament will award cash prizes: $400 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place. Local resident and cornhole champion, Chad Stringer is organizing the tournament. Call 410-490-9856 for information or to sign up.
The silent auction will feature such items as a catered cocktail cruise aboard a 44’ Tiara Yacht, several golf outings, several jewelry items, including a women’s filigree pendant, compliments of Paula Warner, a wheelbarrow of cheer supplied by Baker’s Liquors and True Value Hardware, a fishing trip on Tuna the Tide, a bushel of crabs from Hunters and more. Smokehouse Grill, the premier caterer at KIYC, will donate a catering package for 40 to 50 people.
