CENTREVILLE — A Kent County man who is accused of raping two women within the span of six months is being held without bail following his arrest Sept. 27 on a 12-count grand jury indictment.

Mark Charles Blazejak, 21, of Galena is charged with one count of fourth-degree sex offense; two counts each of second-degree rape, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment; and three counts of third-degree sex of fense.

Maryland State Police arrested Blazejak in Centreville.

Following an initial court appearance and bail review, Blazejak was “booked in” to the Kent County Detention Center on Sept. 27, Warden Herbert Dennis confirmed the following day. Dennis would not say if Blazejak still is detained in the county lockup.

Jamie Dykes, the interim state’s attorney for Wicomico County, has been appointed as special prosecutor because Blazejak’s father is a local law enforcement officer.

“We determined that our office handling the case would create a conflict of interest, or at least the appearance of one,” G. Robert Mowell, Kent County’s interim state’s attorney, wrote in an email Monday.

It is likely that Blazejak will be prosecuted locally because the offenses are alleged to have occurred in Kent County, but the Office of the Wicomico County State’s Attorney or the court has the discretion to change that.

“I am not involved in any of those decisions,” Mowell said in an email.

Maryland State Police said the investigation began in August when a woman reported that she had been raped by Blazejak.

Other women who were interviewed as part of the initial investigation told police they had been sexually assaulted, police said.

A second woman told police that Blazejak raped her in March, according to the criminal indictment.

Police said Blazejak is a suspect in the sexual assault of a third woman, but he has not been charged in that case.

The investigation is ongoing.

Based on the investigation, detectives believe there may be other victims who have not come forward, police said. They are asking anyone who may have been sexually assaulted or who has information to contact Maryland State Police at 410-758-1101.
