Kent Is­land Elks of­fer­ing schol­ar­ships

STEVENSVILLE — The Kent Is­land Elks Lodge 2576 an­nounces two dif­fer­ent schol­ar­ship pro­grams open to lo­cal high school grad­u­ates and this school year’s grad­u­at­ing se­niors.

“Skilled Trades Schol­ar­ships” are open to all high school grad­u­ates be­tween 2015-2019. There are more than 200 trades with jobs in de­mand. The most com­monly known trades are health care, in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy, ad­vanced man­u­fac­tur­ing, con­struc­tion and au­to­mo­tive.

Stu­dents ap­ply­ing are judged on stu­dent goals, grades, ex­tracur­ric­u­lar ac­tiv­i­ties, and let­ters of rec­om­men­da­tions. Schol­ar­ships of $2,000 to $4,000 are pre­sented. The pro­gram pur­sued must cul­mi­nate in a cer­tifi­cate, diploma, or as­so­ciate’s de­gree, not a bach­e­lor’s de­gree, in the skilled field they are work­ing to­ward.

The “Most Valu­able Stu­dent Schol­ar­ship” is avail­able to Class of 2019 grad­u­ates. This pro­gram is open to high school se­niors who are U.S. cit­i­zens and res­i­dents of Queen Anne’s County.

Ap­pli­ca­tions must be sub­mit­ted on­line and the are judged on schol­ar­ship, lead­er­ship and fi­nan­cial need. Last year, four $2,000 one-time schol­ar­ships were pre­sented to Queen Anne’s County grad­u­at­ing se­niors.
