CH­ESTER — Joanne Stella Gerg of Ch­ester, MD, passed away on Oc­to­ber 2, 2018, at Heart­land House in Gra­sonville, MD. She was 71.

Born on Au­gust 4, 1947, in Green­burgh, PA, she was the daugh­ter of the late Michael and Josephine Tu­rack Bo­zoukoff and grew up in the Penn­syl­va­nia area. Joanne earned her Bach­e­lor’s de­gree from the Col­lege of Charleston and her Mas­ter’s de­gree from the Univer­sity of Hous­ton.

She was a pro­gram man­ager of Aero­nau­ti­cal En­gi­neer­ing for the United States Navy and worked on var­i­ous sys­tems for the mil­i­tary. Joanne was a math­e­ma­ti­cian by trade but she en­joyed her work de­vel­op­ing sys­tems for flight crews on B52’s, F18’s, and other mil­i­tary planes. She trav­eled the United States and the world go­ing to con­fer­ences and giv­ing pre­sen­ta­tions on elec­tronic counter mea­sures. Joanne worked with the Air Force of Fin­land and the Fin­ish Navy.

She was long­time mem­ber of the Ladies of the Elks and even­tu­ally be­came a full Elks mem­ber of Post #2574. Joanne was also a mem­ber of the Kent Is­land Her­itage So­ci­ety.

Joanne is sur­vived by her hus­band, Carl Gerg, of Ch­ester, MD; son, James Gerd and his wife Stephanie, of Cal­i­for­nia; two grand­chil­dren: Ni­cholas James Gerg and Natalie Rose Gerg, both of Cal­i­for­nia; and brother, Michael Bo­zoukoff and his wife Lau­rel, of Wash­ing­ton.

A ser­vice will be held on Satur­day, Oct. 6, 11 a.m. at the Fel­lows, Helfen­bein & New­nam Fu­neral Home, P.A. in Ch­ester, MD.
