Over­turned truck shuts down west­bound traf­fic

STEVENSVILLE — An over­turned trac­tor and trailer blocked U.S. Route 50 west and stopped west­bound traf­fic for sev­eral hours Thurs­day af­ter­noon, Nov. 29.

No one was in­jured in the crash, ac­cord­ing to Mary­land Trans­porta­tion Author­ity Po­lice Cpl. Ed­ward Bartlin­ski. West­bound traf­fic was stopped from about 1 to 5 p.m.

The cause of the ac­ci­dent re­mains un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion and the name of the op­er­a­tor and com­pany they were driv­ing for has not been re­leased, Bartlin­ski said.

These in­ten­sive in­ves­ti­ga­tions of­ten take weeks or even months, and MDTA will not re­lease fur­ther in­for­ma­tion un­til the in­ves­ti­ga­tion is com­plete, Bartlin­ski added. No charges have been filed.

Kent Is­land Vol­un­teer Fire Depart­ment re­sponded to as­sist MDTA.

Shortly af­ter the crash, Queen Anne’s County of­fi­cials ac­ti­vated the Route 18/8 Traf­fic Plan which lim­its the travel on these road to lo­cal traf­fic only. Mo­torists were urged to avoid the area. Two-way traf­fic was opened on the two-lane span of the bridge while re­cov­ery units worked to clear the scene.
