Galilee Community Garden seeks gardeners, donations
CHESTER — The Galilee Community Garden was formed in 2015 to meet the need for a community garden on Kent Island. The Queen Anne’s CountyMaster Gardeners, Galilee Lutheran Church and Harbor View Community partnered to meet this need on land owned by the church. Today, 15 raised beds are available to residents regardless of age, color, sex, religion, etc. If you want to be gardener, contact Larry Lorenz at 443534-2423.
During its first three years, the Garden successfully solicited donations of time, labor, materials and money. Working together members:
• Built and planted four teaching gardens (herb, perennial, pollinator and vegetable);
• Built 15 raised-garden beds;
• Built a strong bridge over the drainage swale between the parking lot and garden; and
• Sponsored many garden-related educational programs on-site.
The Galilee Community Garden is “A Community Growing Together.”
The Galilee Community Garden seeks donations through SeedMoney.org. If donations total $600 or more, the Garden will qualify for a $400 SeedMoney challenge grant. The Garden will use the donations and grants to buy construction materials for the Queen Anne’s County High School shop class to build a garden storage shed and for the garden to build a wheelchair accessible path and accessible raised beds out of concrete block.
Donations to help grow the Galilee Community Garden can be made at: donate. seedmoney.org/2736/. A donation of any size is greatly appreciated, members say.
