Virgil Francis Buttrum
QUEENSTOWN — Virgil Francis Buttrum of Queenstown, MD, passed away at Anne Arundel Medical Center on December 19, 2018. He was 83. Born on Oct. 9, 1935 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Willard and Louise Buttrum. In 1962, he began a 30year career with the AACO Fire Department, when he was hired by the Cape St. Claire Fire Company. Much of his career was spent as a rover and his last assignment was at Shady Side Fire Department. Following his love of the Chesapeake Bay, in the early ‘80s he acquired his captain’s license and opened Buttrum’s Sport Fishing. Virgil loved to crab, oyster, fish and hunt. He was also a member of the Living Water Lutheran Church in Stevensville.
Virgil is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol Buttrum, of Queenstown, MD; six children: Frederick “Butch” Buttrum, Dawn Buttrum Hubbard, Patrick Buttrum, Charles Allewalt, Patrick Allewalt, Shannon Allewalt-Hugel; nine grandchildren: Sherri, John, Audrey, Angel, Charlie, Allie, Brady, Kyle, Samantha; five great grandchildren: Carli, Billy, Allie, Reed, Rowan; and the last of his siblings, Gladys Buttrum Hess. He was predeceased by his daughter, BettyLou Harant.
Visitations will be held on Friday, Dec. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, MD. A service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 29, at 4 p.m. at Living Waters Lutheran Church, 830 Romancoke Road, Stevensville, MD 21666.
