Vir­gil Fran­cis But­trum

QUEEN­STOWN — Vir­gil Fran­cis But­trum of Queen­stown, MD, passed away at Anne Arun­del Med­i­cal Cen­ter on De­cem­ber 19, 2018. He was 83. Born on Oct. 9, 1935 in Bal­ti­more, MD, he was the son of the late Wil­lard and Louise But­trum. In 1962, he be­gan a 30year ca­reer with the AACO Fire De­part­ment, when he was hired by the Cape St. Claire Fire Com­pany. Much of his ca­reer was spent as a rover and his last as­sign­ment was at Shady Side Fire De­part­ment. Fol­low­ing his love of the Ch­e­sa­peake Bay, in the early ‘80s he ac­quired his cap­tain’s li­cense and opened But­trum’s Sport Fish­ing. Vir­gil loved to crab, oys­ter, fish and hunt. He was also a mem­ber of the Liv­ing Wa­ter Lutheran Church in Stevensville.

Vir­gil is sur­vived by his wife of 31 years, Carol But­trum, of Queen­stown, MD; six chil­dren: Fred­er­ick “Butch” But­trum, Dawn But­trum Hub­bard, Patrick But­trum, Charles Alle­walt, Patrick Alle­walt, Shan­non Alle­walt-Hugel; nine grand­chil­dren: Sherri, John, Au­drey, An­gel, Char­lie, Al­lie, Brady, Kyle, Sa­man­tha; five great grand­chil­dren: Carli, Billy, Al­lie, Reed, Rowan; and the last of his sib­lings, Gla­dys But­trum Hess. He was pre­de­ceased by his daugh­ter, Bet­tyLou Harant.

Vis­i­ta­tions will be held on Fri­day, Dec. 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fel­lows, Helfen­bein & New­nam Fu­neral Home, P.A. in Ch­ester, MD. A ser­vice will be held on Satur­day, Dec. 29, at 4 p.m. at Liv­ing Wa­ters Lutheran Church, 830 Ro­man­coke Road, Stevensville, MD 21666.
