Kutztown track and field opens ren­o­vated sta­dium

The Kutztown Area High School sta­dium ren­o­va­tion project is com­plete and open for com­pe­ti­tion.

The Cougars track and field teams be­came the first team to en­joy the ac­com­mo­da­tions last week when they hosted Oley Val­ley on March 27.

The boys team was a win­ner, 77-68 over the Lynx while the Oley girls won 8268.

Owen Fen­erty swept the sprints and fig­ured in on two re­lay-race wins by the Cougars in their meet with the Lynx.

Fen­erty clocked an 11.14 in the 100 and 25.50 in the 200 while run­ning legs of Kutztown’s vic­to­ri­ous 4x100 and 4x400. Ivan Fe­g­ley con­trib­uted a pair of firsts for the Cougars in the triple jump (19-4) and high jump (5-10).

In the girls’ meet, Shan­non Lackey, Re­becca Sny­der, Mar­ley Turbett and RayJeana Shultz each won two races to key the Lynx’ vic­tory over the Cougars.

Lackey swept the sprints, run­ning the 100 in 13.31 and the 200 in 28:32. Sny­der won the 800 (2:31) and 1,600 (5:15.10), Turbett took the hur­dles in 17.08 (100 lows) and 52.75 (300 in­ter­me­di­ates) and Shultz headed the shot put (29-2 ¾) and dis­cus (81-5). Sky­lar Miller was a two-event win­ner for Kutztown in the high jump (4-10) and triple jump (33-5) while Car­lee Lasko (3,200, 13:20) and Madi­son Wolf (pole vault, 7-6) were other win­ning Cougars.



0» Katie Calkins pitched a no-hit­ter and Jill Siefert went 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI as Kutztown’s soft­ball team opened the sea­son March 26 with a 9-0 win over Muhlenberg.

Calkins struck out nine and aided her shut­down pitch­ing by hit­ting a dou­ble. Kylie Balthaser had a dou­ble, a run scored and two RBI, and Emily Mad­dock also dou­bled.


KUTZTOWN 10, PEQUEA VAL­LEY 4 » At Kinz­ers March 29, Lu­cas Floyd and Lewis Weaver sparked the Cougars at the plate as they opened their sea­son with a vic­tory over the Braves.

Floyd was 2-for-4 with three runs. Weaver had a dou­ble, two walks, two runs and an RBI.

» At Kutztown March 27, the Cougars spot­ted the Hawks their lone point at first sin­gles be­fore sweep­ing the rest of the ladder to win their Berks Con­fer­ence match.

Thomas Siefert, Paul Ache and Ja­cob Heffner all won at sin­gles be­fore fig­ur­ing in on Kutztown’s points in dou­bles play. Siefert’s 6-0, 6-1 win at sec­ond sin­gles was the Cougars’ best in­di­vid­ual ef­fort.
