A Macomb County sex offender charged with exposing himself to a boy in the locker room at Lindell Ice Arena in Royal Oak is heading back to prison.

Graham Gilpin, 60, of Eastpointe, was sentenced Monday by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Daniel P. O’Brien to serve 52 months to 30 years. He will receive credit for 84 days in jail.

He pleaded guilty Feb. 19 to indecent exposure by a sexually delinquent person and misdemeanor trespassing.

Gilpin, who has a lengthy criminal history, was paroled from prison in March 2019.

According to Royal Oak police, Gilpin took steps to hide his identity on Dec. 10 when he entered the ice arena on Lexington Boulevard near Crooks Road after being banned from the facility.

Police said he signed in under a false name and wore a toupee when he entered a locker room reserved for minors and disrobed in front of a 13-yearold boy.

The arena is managed by Suburban Sports Group, which operates or manages other ice arenas in Macomb Township, Farmington Hills, East Lansing, Novi and Rochester, where Gilpin had previously been warned that he is not welcome.

He further is prohibited from Fraser Hockeyland, which is operated by a different company.

Suburban Sports Group had released Gilpin’s name and photo to its workers at the ice arenas, advising them he had been banned from the properties, according to Royal Oak police Lt. Albert Carter.

A female worker at Lindell Ice Arena noticed Gilpin resembled the distributed photo at the arena after he signed in under a phony name, police said. He was there during stick and puck hours when locker rooms are separated for adults and minors. Police said he walked into the locker room for minors.

The female employee notified a male worker, who went into the room and discovered Gilpin was naked from the waist down in the room with the boy. Gilpin was escorted out of the arena, police said.

Michigan Department of Corrections show Gilpin has served three different stints in prison totaling 12 years since 2002 on convictions in Wayne County.

He has been convicted of indecent exposure by a sexually delinquent person three times before in addition to other felonies.

In addition to the jail time, Judge O’Brien also ordered the defendant to pay $130 in victim rights fee and $118 in state costs.

According to court records, parole will not be considered without Gilpin completing sex offender requirements while in prison.
