An employee of Binson’s Home Medical Equipment and Supplies in Center Line has testified positive for COVID-19, a company official said Wednesday.

Management at Binson’s was notified Tuesday of the staff member’s test result.

The individual, who was not identified, works at the Binson’s location at 26834 Lawrence St. in Center Line.

In response, company officials said the building was closed to everyone, including employees, so that it may be cleaned extensively.

“Binson’s has notified appropriate local and state level health authorities of this matter and management has formed a task force to monitor the situation moving forward,” said attorney Brandon Fasse, representing the home health care equipment firm.

Employees who work out of that facility were directed to stay home until further notice and monitor themselves for potential symptoms and, if necessary, get tested for the coronavirus, he added.

Binson’s asks customers who have been at the Center Line retail location to closely monitor themselves for symptoms and proceed in accordance with guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control.

Binson’s other locations in the area — including Sterling Heights, Royal Oak and Troy — remain open to the public.

“We recognize that this emerging crisis is global in scale and we are committed to doing all we can to prevent the spread while providing essential services to those who are in need,” Fasse said.

For most people, the COVID-19 virus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia. The vast majority of people recover.
