High winds spark flood warning and advisory

Windy weather caused issues for several Macomb County communitie­s on Sunday.

Winds gusting to 45 mph knocked down branches and trees onto power lines in numerous neighborho­ods. No injuries were reported.

Wind damage knocked out electricit­y to portions of Chesterfie­ld Township, Mount Clemens and Warren, according to DTE Energy’s online outage map. Informatio­n embedded in the map shows the power was expected to be restored Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, a lakeshore flood warning remained in effect for Lake St. Clair until 4 a.m. Monday as southwest winds of 20-25 mph gusting to 35-45 mph were impacting the shore of Anchor Bay and Harsens Island.

The wind and water was causing shoreline erosion, damage to docks and minor flooding along the shore, according to the National Weather Service.

A wind advisory was scheduled to expire at 8 p.m. Sunday. The advisory states winds gusting up to 45 mph will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs may be blown down and power outages may result, the weather service said in the advisory.

The weather forecast calls for mostly cloudy conditions today, with a high near 44 degrees, falling to an overnight low of 36. Winds will be out of the west at 14-16 mph, gusting to 24 mph.

Tuesday will see more clouds with a high near 45. The winds out of the north, northeast will calm down to around 8 mph. The overnight low will be around 38.

Wednesday’s high will be around 50 with mostly cloudy skies.
