Kroger looks to hire 2,000 workers
The Kroger Co. of Michigan is looking to hire 2,000 new workers in the coming weeks in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The additions come as grocers across the country struggle to keep up with public demand for fresh food and supplies.
“Kroger remains committed to the well-being of our associates and our customers,” Rachel Hurst, Kroger’s corporate affairs manager, said in a news release. “We are reaching out to all Michiganders who can help us continue to provide fresh food and supplies to our communities.”
Hurst said Kroger started its expedited hiring process two weeks ago to shorten the time between application and employment, bringing new hires on in an average of 72 hours. The human resources department is working seven days a week to quickly interview and recruit new talent, she added.
Tim Massa, Kroger’s senior vice president and chief people officer, said the company’s top priority continues to be uplifting its employees and serving the communities.
“During this time of uncertainty, Kroger is committed to remaining a constant. We have a responsibility to our associates, customers and communities, and we will continue to be here - for any need,” Massa said in the release.
In addition, Kroger is forming employment partnerships with local, regional and national businesses from the most-affected industries to create a shared-resource model to temporarily flex employees to Kroger roles, ensuring the food supply chain continues without disruption.
