LIBRARY EVENTS
Area libraries are affected by the COVID-19 state of emergency and are not able to be open in the manner in which patrons are accustomed but many have services available online or are offering other options for patrons to utilize.
Chesterfield Township Library
• Online learning tools for young children up to adult learners are available with a free library card at chelibrary.org Residents may also apply for a free card at the website.
• Online streaming and download services are also available at chelibrary.org, inlcuding rbDigital, Hoopla, OverDrive/Libby and cloudLibrary for magines, ebooks and audiobooks, tv shows, music and more.
Clinton-Macomb Public Library
• The library is offering various virtual events that all require registration, which can be done at cmpl.libnet. info/events. A valid email address is required to access the events.
• Mitten Tales and Talk at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 2. Listen to a short story read aloud by a librarian, followed by a discussion. All stories relate to Michigan. Registration is required to receive a link to attend the program.
• Teens in grades 6-12 looking for some social connection can check out the Casual After School Hangout for Teens offered from 2-6 p.m. MondayThursdays. Mondays will feature anime, cooking and crafts; Tuesdays will feature video games on Jackbox; Wednesdays will be a football chat along with anime and manga and Thursdays will feature karaoke and social time. Teens need to register at cmpl.org.
• Good Morning CMPL at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Virtual meeting where topic is what the readers want. Registration is required.
• The library is hosting storytime at 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays on their Facebook page. No registration required.
• The library purchased a subscription to Creativebug, an online craft database that includes hundreds of videos to teach people how to sew, knit, crochet, paint and craft. Residents of Clinton Township and Macomb Township can access the service via cmpl.org.
• Residents who still need a library card can fill out an application online at cmpl. org/get-a-card. A member of the CMPL Care Team will reply with a library card number and PIN within 24 hours. Registration has also been extended for anyone with a recently expired card in order to ensure that cardholders have access to library resources at this time.
• Library offers Virtual CMPL, which shows the collection of educational and engaging services they offer all in one place at cmpl.org/virtual-cmpl.
• Library staff is working remotely to answer questions. Account questions can be emailed to caredesk@cmpl.org. If there are reference questions or questions about reading recommendations, email info@cmpl.org.
Eastpointe Public Library
• Author Paul Vachon presents ‘Lost Restaurants of Detroit.’ Vachon talks about some of the favorite restaurants around Detroit in this program that was filmed at the library. it is available on the website cityofeastpointe.net/library
• Library is open for curbside service and phone reference service during regular hours. Patrons can place holds on items through the catalog or call to request materials.
• Library is open to the public. Masks must be worn social distancing practiced. Patrons will have access to library materials, computers and copiers. Materials returned the library must be placed in the drop box.
• The library is offering virtual storytimes. Multiple storytimes and book talks for different age groups. Themes will change each week and videos will be posted on the Facebook page which is accessible from the library website, cityofeastpointe.net/ library Anyone who comments on a Facebook post will automatically be entered into a biweekly raffle. Raffle prizes are gift cards to local restaurants. Winners will be notified with a
Facebook message.
• Patrons who live in Eastpointe may call the library with specific requests or a general request of a genre or author they like for librarians to make material selections. Books, movies, music and magazines are available for check out. Contact the library from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 586-445-5096 to make a request. Eastpointe residents who do not have a library card can also contact the library.
Fraser Public Library
• Starting Aug. 3, patrons can call the library to make a computer reservation 24 hours in advance. Reservation periods are a max of 45 minutes and reserved for patrons needing to print, scan, copy or fax in addition to using the computer. Times start at 10:30 a.m. and go to 6:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and until 3:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To ensure down time between reservations to disinfect, the reservation starts at half past the hour, not when the patron arrives to the library. Reservations can also be made for patrons who need a library card application, their card renewed or for children’s library card applications.
• Patrons are asked to call the library at 586-2932055 24 hours in advance to make a reservation.
• When arriving for their scheduled time, patrons are asked to call the library to verify their name and so they can be let in.
• Patrons are allowed to bring no more than one additional person with them if needed, but encouraged to come alone if possible.
• Guest passes for computers are available.
• Ms. Kristen’s Storytime Live is continuing at 2 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday on Facebook, reading chapter installments of ‘Anne of Green Gables.’
• Online crafts for the Summer Reading Club are making inspirational word rocks and toilet paper roll princes and princesses. Videos can be found on the website on the Summer Reading Club Activities page.
• Summer Reading Club registration opened on
June 20 Patrons can register throughout the summer by visiting fraser publiclibrary.org/fpl-2020/ summer-reading-club.
• The library is open for curbside pick-up Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Patrons who wish to checkout materials should call the library (586-293-2055) to checkout over the phone and then call again when they’re in the parking lot.
• Librarians are available from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays to answer questions regarding the library’s online databases. Harrison Township Public Library
• During the month of August, the library will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment, which guaranteed the right to vote. Visit the library to view “Rightfully Hers” display, a new pop up exhibit from the National Archives which explores the amendment, women’s voting rights before and after and its impact after.
• Zoom Book Club meets at 7 p.m. Aug. 25. Selection is ‘Say Nothing’ by Patrick Radden Keefe. Register in advance for the online meeting. After registering, attendees will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
• Virtual Trivia on Zoom at 7 p.m. Aug. 27. Teams will be chosen randomly with Zoom. Registration in advance is required. After registering, attendees will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.
• Mother Goose on the Loose at 10:30 a.m. Aug.
29. Engage babies, toddlers and preschoolers with rhymes, songs and stories. Work on motor skills along with language development. Watch them as often as you like from the Facebook page or YouTube channel.
