Seven hospitalized after stolen vehicle crashes
Driver, 16, in ritical condition; police also find handguns
Warren police are inestigating a three-vehile crash that left a teenger hospitalized in critcal condition, six others njured and the discovery f several firearms early unday morning.
“The investigation is ngoing but I can tell you hat we will be seeking multiple arrest warrants hen we meet with the rosecutor’s office,” said olice Commissioner Wiliam Dwyer.
According to police, oficers were attempting o make a traffic stop on speeding Jeep Grand herokee on southbound an Dyke Avenue and 12 Mile Road about 3:30 a.m. hen the Jeep sped off. olice then called off the ursuit due to the driver’s xcessive speed but coninued to follow the vehile, Dwyer said.
As the driver of the eep continued south on an Dyke he disregarded red light at 11 Mile and mashed into a pickup ruck and a semi, police aid.
Warren fire crews reponded to the scene and ad to use a Hurst tool, he so-called Jaws of Life, o free the 16-year-old
driver from the wreckage. He was transported to an area hospital where he reportedly was breathing with the assistance of a ventilator.
Four other teens who were in the Jeep, ages ranging from 16 to 18, also suffered non-lifethreatening injuries, including two with broken legs. A man and a woman in the pickup truck were also transported to the hospital, but they are expected to make a full
recovery.
Investigators learned the Jeep had been stolen last week from neighboring Sterling Heights. Officers also found three handguns inside the vehicle.
Detectives plan to meet with the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday to determine exactly what criminal charges will be filed in the case relating to the crash, the stolen vehicle and the firearms.
