Michigan reported 768 new confirmed cases of coronavirus and 4 new confirmed deaths due to the disease on Sunday.

This brings the state’s total of confirmed cases to 96,792 and total confirmed deaths to 6,393.

The state also reported 10,016 probable cases and 266 probable deaths, a number which did not change from Saturday.

Together with probable cases and deaths, there are 106,808 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in Michigan, as well as 6,659 confirmed and probable deaths.

Probable cases include individuals who never tested positive for the virus, but who were presumed to be infected due to their symptoms and past exposure.

Similarly, a probable death is defined as those whose death certificate listed COVID-19 as a cause of death or a significant condition contributing to death.

Sunday’s numbers come following a reporting mishap by the state on Friday, where a large number of lab messages were improperly formatted, causing some valid results to be blocked from being processed and entered into the system.

The state said this about the issue on Friday:

“A large number of received lab messages were improperly formatted and temporarily blocked some valid results from being processed and entered into the reporting system. This issue is currently being fixed. As the valid results enter the system over the next day or two, there will likely be higher than expected numbers of daily case counts. This lab result backlog should not affect the 7-day rolling average or the cases by date of onset in the dashboard data.”

Consequentially, the state forecasted that results would trend higher over the weekend as cases that were missed on Friday were confirmed and reported, impacting both Saturday’s and Sunday’s reports.
