Teenager charged with manslaught­er

Boyfriend of slain 17-year-old Roseville girl claims shooting was an accident

A 17-year-old Eastpointe man claims he accidental­ly shot his 17-year-old girlfriend and mother of his child Wednesday afternoon in his home.

Rayquan Taylor was formally charged Friday with manslaught­er and discharge of an aimed weapon but without malice and two firearm counts in the death Kira Seymour of Roseville in his home in the 23000 block of Rein Avenue, near Stephens Road and Gratiot Avenue.

“He’s claiming it was accidental,” Eastpointe police Lt. David Ernatt said Friday. “It was just him andher” in the direct proximity of the shooting.

Sey - mour was shot once in the chest with a semi-automatic handgun and was found deceased by police in a hallway of the home, which also was occupied by two members of Taylor ’ s family. The couple’s 6-month-old child was found unharmed in the home.

Ernatt said police are investigat­ing informatio­n related to the gun, which Taylor was not allowed to legally possess as a 17-year-old. He was arraigned in 38th District

Court andwas being held inthe county jail in lieu of a $500,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled to return to court Oct. 20.

Manslaught­er and the discharge offenses are punishable by up to 15 years in prison and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony carries an mandatory term of two years in prison.

Both teens attended Roseville High School and were said to have had an on-again, off-again relationsh­ip.
