Longtime UCS board member steps down
Robert Ross, the Utica Community Schools Board of Education’s longest-serving member, has stepped down.
Ross, a member of the UCS board since 2004, served as trustee, treasurer and president during his tenure.
“It has been a privilege to serve the outstanding staff, parents and residents of this district. At this point in my life, I need to step away and focus more on my family and personal goals. Utica Community Schools is a special place that I know will continue to do great things for kids,” Ross said in a press release.

“Dr. Ross has been a tireless advocate for this community and has made a difference in the lives of literally thousands of students,” Thomas said.
The UCS school board is now accepting applications to fill the remainder of Ross’ term. The term expires Dec. 31, 2022.
Candidates have until 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24 to apply for the post. To qualify, a candidate must be a citizen of the United States of America, over 18 years of age and a registered voter residing in a city or township within the Utica Community Schools.
Candidates should submit a letter of interest and a resume with background information. A questionnaire must also be completed by each candidate.
Interested citizens may obtain the questionnaire and application process at uticak12.org/district_leadership/board_of_education_information or by contacting the administrative assistant to the superintendent at 586-797-1102.
The questionnaire and application must be completed in full and returned by one of the following methods by the 4:30 p.m. deadline to be considered for the appointment:

The successful candidate will serve on the Board of Education through Dec. 31, 2022. To continue as a board trustee, the appointee will need to file as a candidate for a six-year term and be elected in the November 2022 Board of Education election.
