Rockets’ offense explodes in soccer victory over Memphis

New Haven beat an old rival in soccer. Center midfielder Hannah Osterholm scored three goals and forward Rylee Gurley had two as the Rockets defeated Memphis 6-1 in a non-league match Thursday.

Center back Nola Ashcraft scored the other goal for New Haven, which for many years was a rival of Memphis in the Southern Thumb Associatio­n.

Osterholm scored one of her goals on a diving header across the box.

New Haven now competes in the MAC Silver Division. The Rockets have yet to play a division match. They are 2-0 overall.

Memphis is in the Greater Thumb Conference.

CENTER LINE 3, SOUTH LAKE 2

Emma Behrnt scored all three Center Line goals. Madison Glass had two assists and Christina Pillow one. Keeper Hannah Haire made four saves and Nishat Tasnim played well on defense, coach Mike Bollan said. Center Line is 2-0-0 in the MAC Silver and overall. Earlier, Pillow scored three goals in a 9-0 victory over Fitzgerald.

FRASER 6, LAKE SHORE 0

Freshman Claire Wise scored two goals and Emily Plouff had two assists as Fraser improved to 1-1 in the MAC White and 2-3 overall. Erin Pesti, Mari Jackson, Sydney Smith and Jaida Oxendine scored a goal apiece.

TROY ATHENS 2, ANCHOR BAY 1

Morgan Krupp’s goal lifted Anchor Bay into a 1-1 tie, but Troy Athens prevailed in the non-league match. Tars keeper Avory Murray had eight saves.

“We had opportunit­ies to tie and played with a great deal of heart,” Anchor Bay coach Kevin Grammens said. “Once we find our rhythm, we are going to be just fine. I’m very excited to see the continual growth of this team.”

EISENHOWER 4, FRASER 0

Lexi Morrison scored three goals and Maria Riggio scored on a penalty kick to lead Eisenhower in its season opener.

ROMEO 2, FRASER 0

Alyssa Pressel and Bella Burke scored for Romeo.

Baseball

STEVENSON 10, AVONDALE 4

Joe Turner is in the win column.

The Stevenson pitcher struck out eight and allowed three hits as the Titans defeated Avondale. It was Turner’s first career victory.

Dylan Kleinedler and Owen Runson had two hits and three RBI apiece in the nonleague game.

Reliever Ty Jenkins allowed no runs in two innings.

The MAC Red Titans are 5-3.

MOTT 11, L’ANSE CREUSE NORTH 4

Ryan Becroft, Braden Abbott and Logan Ramsey drove in two runs apiece to lead Mott to the MAC crossover victory.

ANCHOR BAY 15, EISENHOWER 10

Logan Rybarczyk had two hits, walked twice and scored three runs to lead Anchor Bay in its season opener. Hayden Ludwig and Liam Karry had two hits apiece, and Ludwig walked three times. Winning pitcher John Sowards had two hits. Zack Slezak scored twice and had two hits. Eisenhower’s Angelo Asta and David Kedrow each had two hits, and Andrew Krysinski drove in two runs.

UTICA 8, ROSEVILLE 1

Darren Welch struck out eight in five innings and Ayden Salmo, Gavin Zbytowski,

Darren Welch and Dane Cargill drove in a run apiece to lead Utica. Zbytowski did not allow a run in two innings of relief.

LUTHERAN NORTH 7, ROMEO 0

Zach Selewski allowed two hits in 6.1 innings and Adam Peters and Gavin Kraatz had two hits and two RBI apiece to lead Lutheran North. Matt Drdul and Ben Narr had a hit and drove in a run apiece.

FORD 15, CHIPPEWA VALLEY 12

Connor Cornwell drove in four runs to spark Ford.

Softball

FORD 3-12, STONEY CREEK 2-9

Winning pitcher Danielle Sugars drove in a run and struck out four to spark Ford in the first game. Kiana Bieniek drove home Ava Hacker in the fifth, and Tori Marlow had an RBI in the seventh. Sugars had two hits and was the winning pitcher in relief in the second game. Addison Hill’s three-run double highlighte­d a six-run fourth. Mallory Sornig and Jenna Nilson had two hits and

two RBI apiece. Ford is 4-1.

Jaiden Lara and Mckenzie Latshaw had three hits apiece. Skylar ClaeysMeek­s had two hits and Olivia DeBets was the winning pitcher in the MAC crossover game.

Genevieve Decker and Jessica Orlando drove in a run apiece for Anchor Bay in the MAC Red game. The Tars are 2-0 in division games.

Kennedi Pochmara hit a two-run double and Kelsie Czarnomski had a sacrifice fly during a three-run fourth

inning that gave Chippewa Valley a 3-2 lead, and the Big Reds never trailed again in the MAC crossover game. Czarnomski struck out five in a complete-game performanc­e. Fraser’s Jaiden Lara had a two-run single.

Kennedi Pochmara’s solo home run in the bottom of the seventh lifted Chippewa Valley. Paige Maiorana, Lexi Murray, Pochmara, and Kristen Tesch, had RBIs in a four-run third. Eisenhower had 17 hits.

Alyson Allport had four hits, drove in two runs and scored three to spark Center Line. Emma Lautenbach had three hits and scored three runs. Isabella Oscov drove in three runs. Emma Hastings, Harley Limberger and Allison Zielinski scored

two runs apiece. Line is 4-0.

Center

Kirsten Smith and Calle Perrin had a home run, three hits and four RBI apiece to lead Marysville. Brandi Bassett drove in four runs and Kaitlyn Cain two, and winning pitcher Smith struck out 13 as the Vikings improved to 2-0 in the MAC Blue and 2-0 overall.
