Late goal lifts Romeo over LC North

Alyssa Pressel was happy she was able to give her Romeo soccer teammates a pleasant trip home from L’Anse Creuse North.

Pressel’s goal broke a 2-2 tie with 5:53 remaining Friday to lift the Bulldogs to a 3-2 win against the Crusaders in a Macomb Area Conference White Division game.

“It felt really good,” Pressel said. “L’Anse Creuse North has been our competitio­n for quite a while. I’ve been working hard to make things happen for my team. They mean a lot to me. I want to be a team player. I’m glad I could bring it home for everyone and make everyone happy to go home with a win.”

Sammi Springer, who scored Romeo’s second goal from a scramble in front of the net late in the first half, turned the ball back to Pressel.

“I was running through a gap between the wide back and the center back,” Pressel said. “I saw an opening and took the shot with my left foot and just put it in the bottom.”

The goal was even more impressive because Pressel is normally a right-footed kicker.

The victory was the second straight for Romeo to open the MAC White season. The Bulldogs blanked Fraser 2-0 in their opener. LCN slipped to 1-1 in the division.

“We started our season against two tough MAC White opponents,” said coach Trevor Foster. “Normally, we have a couple games to warm up for something like this. L’Anse Creuse North played great. They had some good opportunit­ies. They played us tight but we were prepared.
