More than 896,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Michigan since the pandemic arrived.

The state’s Department of Health and Human Services reported 672 new cases on Friday, a report that includes three days. The daily average was 224.

Earlier this month, Michigan moved to report only two days a week updates on COVID-19 cases and deaths, due to the falling numbers.

The Wednesday-Thursday-Friday

report, though, exceeded the prior report, which covered four days, of 438 cases.

The state also reported 26 more deaths, pushing the total to 19,801, with 18 of the deaths coming from reviews of vital records.

For all of July, the number of tests coming back positive has been below 2%.

Over the last two days, the state reported between 13,000 and 14,000 tests, far below the heights earlier this year, when some days saw 60,000 tests administered, or late November, when 90,000 were given one day.

On Friday, Michigan also showed that 4.5 million Michigan residents area fully vaccinated, which is 52.3% of the population.

Oakland County led the state in new cases, up by 113 for a total of 102,494, most in the state. The county also added five deaths to reach 2,318.

Wayne County added the next most, with 80 new infections found for a total of 102,245. The county, excluding Detroit, also saw its death toll up by four for a total of 2,574.

The city of Detroit added 49 cases to reach 51,609 with five more deaths, for a total of 2,303.

Macomb County was up by 45 cases, for a total of 92,083, but no new deaths were reported.
