A second suspect was arrested Friday afternoon in west Detroit in connection with last week’s homicide at a Warren gas station.

Christopher Slade, 21, was apprehended by Warren police special operations unit officers and members of the U.S. Marshals’ Service. He is charged with felony murder, felony firearm, and assault with intent to murder. Slade is expected to be arraigned on Monday in 37th District Court.

“The Warren Police Department made locating Slade its number one priority,” said Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer. “Thanks to the work of the Special Operations Unit, the Detective Bureau, and members of the U.S. Marshals Service, Slade was able to be taken off the streets without further violence occurring. This is yet another example of the Warren Police Department’s commitment to working nonstop and using all available resources to locate violent offenders and take them into custody.”

Joshua Carter, the other homicide suspect, turned himself in to Warren police on March 28.

Talal Shamo was shot multiple times and killed at a Marathon gas station on Ryan Road near Nine Mile Road on March 23. Warren police say it appeared the meeting between Shamo and his assailants, Slade and Carter, was planned.

Surveillance video showed the two suspects pulling into the gas station in a Ford Fusion and Carter getting into Shamo’s vehicle for several minutes, then going back to the Fusion. Shamo then appears to flag down the Fusion. Carter again gets out of the passenger seat of the Ford and gets into Shamo’s car. There appears to be a struggle, then shots are fired and Carter returns to the Fusion again. Shamo is seen getting out of his vehicle and falling to the ground. Slade then gets out of the Fusion’s driver’s seat, walks over to Shamo with a handgun and fires several shots into the victim.

Slade is being held in the Warren Police Department jail pending arraignment.
