Warren woman pleads guilty in fatal pedestrian crash
She was driving with suspended license, had consumed alcohol
A Warren woman has pleaded guilty to a 15-year felony and another charge for striking two pedestrians with her car last August on the near east side in Detroit, killing one of them and injuring the second person.
Shacuria L. Nicholoson, who was 20 at the time, pleaded last week in Wayne County Circuit Court to driving with a suspended license causing death and driving with a suspended license causing serious injury for the death of Lorena Washington, 43, and injury of a 61-year-old man about 1 a.m. Aug. 28 on Mack Avenue near East Grand Boulevard, according to Wayne prosecutors and court records. Nicholson was driving west on Mack and approaching Field and struck the victims as they crossed the street, prosecutors said.
Both victims were transported to a hospital, where Washington was later pronounced dead.
Nicholson had alcohol in her system, prosecutors said.
Three misdemeanors will be dismissed as part of a plea deal with Wayne County prosecutors, records say, including minor operating under the influence of alcohol and moving violation causing death and moving violation causing injury.
She is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 1 by Wayne County Circuit Judge Deborah Thomas.
Nicholson’s attorney could not be reached for comment.
She was released following her arraignment on a $500,000 personal bond.
