Four from county win regional coach of year awards
Four coaches from Macomb County teams have received regional football coach of the year awards.
Honored by the state coaches association were Dan Rohn of De La Salle Collegiate and Brandon Gennette of Cousino in Division 2; Greg Baur of Dakota in Division 1 and Joe Beck of Parkway Christian in Division 8.
Rohn’s district and regional championship-winning team is still active in the state playoffs. The Pilots (11-1) play Birmingham Groves at 1 p.m. Saturday at Troy Athens in a state semifinal game.
De La Salle is seeking a third consecutive trip to the championship game and a second consecutive state title.
Gennette engineered a turnaround at Cousino in his first season. The Patriots had a 6-3 regular-season record and made the playoffs after going winless in 2021.
Baur’s Cougars were the only one of the county’s 34 teams to go undefeated (9-0) during the regular season. In the process, Dakota won the MAC Red Division championship and a district championship.
Beck guided Parkway Christian to a district championship — the Eagles’ first since 2007.
