Winners crowned at Dick Huvaere buck pole
The annual buck pole contest at Dick Huvaere concluded Wednesday night at Dick Huvaere’s Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram in Richmond.
The dealership’s annual event coincided with the opening of firearm season in Michigan. For a $10 entry fee, with all proceeds going to the P.A.T.H. Foundation, hunters could hang their bucks and receive prizes ranging from Detroit Red Wings tickets to hunting gear and more.
The winners were determined by the Commemorative Bucks of Michigan. The top prizes went to Heath Postma, 42, of St. Clair and Alexandra Jedenasty, 33, of Emmett.
Jedenasty, who has been hunting for 12 years, took a nine-point buck with a score of 114.
“I was just sitting out there with my husband for the first time in a long time, we usually hunt solo, and it just came out,” she said.
Heath Hosman, a lifetime hunter, said the 12-point buck that scored 150 was the biggest he has ever taken and it happened just as the season opened on Tuesday morning around 7 a.m. He initially passed on what he said would have been a “sub par” shot but the buck came back around and he was able to land a broadside shot from 50 yards.
The buck pole event included family fun with a bounce house, kids’ crafts, video games, a shooting range, food, and sponsor exhibits. It was held at the Richmond dealership’s body shop on Gratiot Avenue. WCSX (94.7 FM) radio and Michigan Out-of-Doors TV host Jenny Ciolek also provided coverage at the event.
