Driver shot by BB gun while on Interstate 696

Suspect taken into custody in Dearborn Hts.

A Dearborn Heights man is in custody today after he was accused of shooting at a vehicle with a BB gun along Interstate 696 in Warren, according to Michigan State Police.

State Police said the incident happened about 5:20 p.m. Sunday on westbound I-696 between Hoover and Mound roads. Dispatcher­s were contacted by a driver who said his vehicle was shot at from another vehicle.

“The victim was also struck in the arm by a BB,” MSP said in a statement.

Troopers met the victim at the Metro North Post in Oak Park to examine his vehicle where they found the rear passenger window shattered and damage to the dashboard panel.

The accused shooter was found by police at his home in Dearborn Heights. A search warrant was executed by the Emergency Support Team. Detectives located several pieces of evidence in the home and in the suspect’s vehicle.

State Police interviewe­d the suspect at the Metro North Post and then lodged him at the Macomb County Jail in Mount Clemens. The case is scheduled to be reviewed by Macomb County prosecutor­s for possible issuance of an arrest warrant.
