Cops: Unruly behavior clears out hospital ER

Follows shooting at Detroit topless club

- By Mitch Hotts

Authorities were forced to shut down the waiting area of the emergency room at a Warren hospital early Sunday due to a rowdy gathering of friends of a man shot at a Detroit topless club.

Warren police said officers responded to a request for manpower from the security desk at the front door of the ER at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Warren Campus on Hoover at 12 Mile roads.

Some sort of dispute broke out in the facility requiring officers to clear out the ER for a length of time, according to Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer.

“While our officers were assisting Detroit officers in their investigation, one of the shooting victims showed up at Ascension’s emergency room where an argument broke out,” Dwyer said. “They ended up closing the emergency

room and clearing people out of there.”

No arrests were apparently made, Dwyer said, and no further information about the hospital incident was available. He did not know what prompted the commotion.

The incident at the emergency room took place about 2:50 a.m. Sunday, around an hour after a double shooting was reported outside Truth Detroit Gentlemen’s Club on the south side of Eight Mile Road, east of Mound Road, according to Detroit police.

A Detroit police spokesperson said the suspect fired several gunshots striking two individuals who were outside as the club was closing for the night.

“Two adult males were hit, one fatally wounded,” Cpl. Dan Donakowski said in a statement.

The other male victim was privately conveyed to a hospital. He was reported to be in stable condition, Donakowski added.

The person who fired the shots is still at large.

Michigan State Police arrived at the scene with a K9 team to provide further assistance in the investigation.

A spokesperson for Ascension Healthcare was not immediately available to comment on how many people were removed from the waiting room or how long it was closed to the public.

There was no answer Sunday evening at Truth Detroit.
