Virtual support program targets inflated food costs
With inflation still running high, many Michiganders may be concerned about their ability to pull off the holidays this year. Whether planning to host family or friends for a festive holiday dinner, or simply trying to feed your family on top of the many other expenses that come along with the holiday season, Gesher Human Services has some tips on how to make it happen.
The nonprofit will be holding a virtual program for Michigan residents, “Financial Friday: Food and Finances” from 1-1:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9.
“For families who make too much money to qualify for food assistance, but who don’t make enough money to cope with the rising costs, the pain is real,” said Laltsha Cunningham, financial capability manager at Gesher Human Services. “We are offering our workshop to help families navigate their expenses at the grocery store more effectively.”
The average cost of food has increased 10.5-13% in the last six months, according to Cunningham, leaving many families facing economic hardship.
