Macomb attorneys to stage fourth Feed the Need
Rec Bowl event provides food, hats, gloves to those in need
Feed the Need organizer Steve Steinhardt is optimistic the event will serve twice as many people as it did last year.
The homeless, veterans and senior citizens are invited to enjoy a warm meal and receive a hat and pair of gloves at the fourth Feed the Need annual event to be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Rec Bowl in Mount
Clemens, sponsored by the Macomb County Bar Foundation, part of the Macomb County Bar Association.
“This is for people who are without a warm meal around Christmas-time,” Steinhardt said. “The goal is to help as many people as we can.”

But with heightened advertising through 50 campaign-style signs placed in and around Mount Clemens and contact with local churches and service organizations, a much better turnout is expected this year, said Steinhardt, an attorney and former assistant Macomb prosecutor.
“I think we’re going to get it back up to 200,” he said.
“We’re pleased with the generous support from many people in the Macomb County Bar and others in the community, many of them businesses,” Steinhardt said. “I think a lot of people were looking to help and where to find a place to help was the question.”
“This program has become an annual tradition for attorneys throughout the county who generously donate their time and money to make it a success,” said Macomb Bar President Lori Smith, a member of the event’s organizing committee in the Foundation. “All of those in need are welcomed and encouraged to join us for a hot meal on December 18th at Rec Bowl in downtown Mount Clemens.”
Steinhardt said he came up with the idea in 2019 after seeing a Facebook post of a restaurant offering free meals around Thanksgiving.
The group will spend $6,000 to $7,000 mostly raised via donations from local attorneys, and law firms have donated hats and gloves.
Recipients will be able to enjoy a chicken dinner from Boston Market, turkey, ham, pizza, Coney Islands from Gus’ Coney Island in Mount Clemens, and pumpkin pie.
Rec Bowl owner Fred Fox provides the site to hold the event.
Some type of musical entertainment will be included, Steinhardt said.
The committee also is composed of Bar President Lori Smith, Sean Blume, Laura Polizzi, Angela Medley and Bar Executive Director Rick Troy, all attorneys.
Anyone wishing to get involved or donate can call the Bar office at 586-4682990 or Steinhardt at 248259-8110.
