Board of Trustees meeting briefs

- By Nicole Tuttle

During the Dec. 7 board meeting, the Macomb Township Board of Trustees acted on two requests.

• Adopted a resolution in support of a SPARK Grant application for an inclusive playground at Pitchford Park.

Supervisor Frank Viviano said that there has been some recent activity towards moving ahead on the new park, which is located on Romeo Plank one fourth of a mile north of 22 Mile Road.

In a Dec. 2 memo to the board, Viviano wrote that the township will apply for a SPARK Grant in the amount of $1,000,000 for the project, and if awarded, would also make a financial commitment in the amount of $30,000. Viviano said that the grant application is due Dec. 19.

He also said that although an inclusive playground is not part of the original bid specs for the park project, if the township were to get the grant the playground could be incorporated seamlessly into the park. The playground could be bid as a separate item, he said. In his memo to the board, Viviano wrote that the township would only build the playground if it is awarded the grant.

• Adopted a resolution in support of a SPARK Grant application for pathway completion and an observation deck in the Town Center area.

In a Dec. 2 memo to the board, Viviano wrote that the township would like to apply for a SPARK grant for a pathway to be completed around the pond at Town Center, and an observation deck to be built over the pond, as well as fountains, a bike repair station and pad.

Viviano wrote that the township is requesting $991,689 in grant funds to complete the project and would like to submit an application for the Dec. 19, round one due date. He also wrote that the project would only be constructed if the township was awarded the grant.
